A lot has been made of my alleged “fall off a stage” yesterday, which has been described as a “spectacular plunge”. It beats me how a stumble from a 30-centimetre-high raised platform can be called a spectacular plunge.

However, it is alleged that my account of the event was not truthful: “I stepped back one step. I didn’t fall off the stage. Just one leg went down, but I was sweet”.

I have checked the video and yes, I may have been a little loose with the truth.

My half-arsed account of a split-second error of judgement is being cast as a damning indictment on my prime ministerial credibility.

The truth of the matter is that I was pissed, and couldn’t remember what happened.
